The kickflip is one of the coolest moves you can do in your kayak and one of my personal favourites. Whilst it looks impressive and will take a few attempts to learn, it’s honestly not that hard to do.

There are a couple of different techniques to learn with the main difference being to throw it with an open or closed blade. I personally think the open face method is a waste of time as I have always found it to come up short in terms of both air, speed of rotation, style and more importantly the ability to be able to throw it off of any wave. For all of these reasons and in the interests of doing things properly, we will be focusing on the closed blade technique!
