Where did you last paddle?

At our artificial white water course here in Cardiff, we’ve had a very dry summer.

What are your best paddling memories?

I always have fond memories of my trips to Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Exploring new places, new rivers. Every trip makes new great memories!

Where should everybody go paddling once?

I’d have to say Switzerland on the Verzasca, one of my new favourite rivers. That river has a lot to offer and is totally stunning.

What else do you like to do when you’re not out paddling?

Any spare time I have gets spent on my family, we have a lot of fun! I have been known to dabble with skiing, mountain biking and climbing once in a blue moon.

What’s your best advice for other paddlers?

Start small and work your way up, stepping it up too far too soon can often push you back a few steps. Oh and always screw your bung in!

What are your favourite bits of kit?

I’m a big fan of my Fuse and Atom suits, they are super dry and tough! My Horizon shorts have exceeded my expectations having survived three years of rafting and abuse and still going strong. My newest favourite is the new NeoFlex line which has been perfect for Spring and Summer sessions.

What is left on your list of places to go?

I’ve wanted to go to Norway for a long time, unfortunately, it didn’t work out this year, so fingers crossed for next year. There’s also plenty of stuff in America that I’m very keen to get on in the near future.

Describe your perfect day on the water?

Waking from a good nights sleep in a beautiful location with a hot coffee in hand. Paddling on a fantastic river, with great water levels, sunny weather and great friends! Ideally a nice challenging river but not too stressful, plenty of high fives, whoops and smiles. Then beers and dinner around a fire to chat about the good, the bad and the ugly lines of the day!

What are you most looking forward to in 2017?

Well, I’ve recently returned from my biggest trip of 2017, paddling in Italy and Switzerland. I was super stoked for that trip and it was awesome! Great levels, perfect paddling buddies and plenty of new rivers. The next significant date in the calendar is now Sickline which I’m  knuckling down for, it’s always a cool event to be a part of.
